The Championship is disregarded by most, and passed off as a “lower league”. In an interview yesterday, Robbie Savage (a premier league player for many years) said that the championship was one of the most competitive leagues in the world, and one of the hardest to play in. He isn’t wrong. Only 22 points separate the play-offs and the relegation zone, that’s 16 places! It is a league with 24 teams all of a very similar level. On any team’s day, they can beat anyone else and it would not be considered too much of a shock. One example of how cruel the tight league can be is Derby County. Saturday the 27th of November, Derby were 4th, 6 wins from their last 8, and looking good. A thrown away lead against Burnley saw them lose the next 5, and now they are 17th, and only 7 points clear of the drop.
